John Cena: 15 Facts about The WWE Superstar

October 28, 2019

John Cena is one of the most multi-talented figures of his time. The rapper, actor and face of the WWE is now 38 years old, so he’s been in the spotlight for quite some time. However, despite all the time he has spent in the public eye, there are still some things that many people do not know about him. With that in mind, here we present our list of 15 things you probably didn’t know about John Cena. Check out part one below, and stay tuned for part two, coming soon!

Number Fifteen: He Is Left-Handed. Approximately 10 percent of the human population is left-handed, and John Cena just so happens to be part of that 10 percent! Cena often signs

autographs using his left hand, and he also tends to hold microphones in his left hand as well.

Number Fourteen: His Rap Album Earned Him Respect. Cena’s rap album, titled You Can’t See Me, actually debuted at number 15 on the Billboard charts. The album sold over 140,000 copies in its first week alone!

Number Thirteen: He Has Interesting Roots. Cena’s father is of Italian descent while his mother is of French-Canadian and English descent, which makes Cena’s background a study in and of itself. Interestingly, the name “Cena” means “dinner” in Italian.

Number Twelve: He Played Football in College. In fact, Cena was quite the talented football player. He was a Divison III All-American center, and his number was 54.

Number Eleven: He Was a Bodybuilder. Though Cena has quite the built body now, did you know he actually used to be a bodybuilder? However, his career in bodybuilding did not pan out, although he has been on several covers of the men’s magazine Muscle and Fitness.

Number Ten: He Was First Known as “The Prototype.” When Cena’s wrestling career was first blossoming, he had the in-ring name of “The Prototype” because of his ideal and large physique.

Number Nine: He Collaborated With Bull Buchanan. The two were a short-lived rapping team, where Cena would insult his opponents by rapping, and Buchanan would follow it with “Boo-yah!” However, Buchanan was eventually replaced by Red Dogg.

Number Eight: He Studied Exercise Physiology. Not only is Cena the embodiment of physical perfection, but he also studied it in college! That might not come as much of a surprise, but it’s clear that the man has both brains and brawn.

Number Seven: He Has Always Had a Heart for Wrestling. Cena did not make his wrestling debut on television until June 27, 2002. He fought Kurt Angle, and while he did lose, the aggression and passion he displayed solidified a fan base that would only continue to grow in the future.

Number Six: He Outsold Dave Matthews. We already mentioned the success of Cena’s rap album, You Can’t See Me. However, did you know he outsold both Audioslave and the Dave Matthews Band after his album debuted? He outsold the two megastars during the week of June 6, 2005.

Number Five: He Was on a Cereal Box. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson used to criticize Cena for being “something for the kids.” Because of this, he started calling Cena “Fruity Pebbles.” However, the name must have stuck, because Cena eventually appeared on the front of the boxes of Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles! He was on the cereal boxes in 2013.

Number Four: His Acting Career Is Pretty Impressive. Cena is not just a one and done kind of actor. He has starred in films like 12 Rounds and The Marine. One of Cena’s latest acting endeavors is in 2015’s Daddy’s Home, in which he played the part of “Cool Dad.”

Number Three: He Holds a Charitable Record. In 2015, Cena became the first celebrity ever to make 400 “Make-a-Wish” dreams come true. This statistic becomes especially impressive when you consider that Cena fulfilled his 300th wish less than a year ago, meaning he completed another 100 in less than a year.

Number Two: He Holds an Impressive WrestleMania Record. Cena has more heavyweight titles won at a WrestleMania than anyone else in the world: four. He is clearly one of the most talented wrestlers of all time.

Number One: He Pooped His Pants During a Match. Cena was suffering from food poisoning but decided he could continue to compete. However, he realized his grave mistake when he found himself leaving the ring to vomit during a match, and while he was vomiting, he had a bowel movement as well. Ouch.
